What do charleston watermelon seedling plants look like?
I planted 4 watermelons like 3 and 1/2 weeks ago, they are mixing up with the weeds, and i dont want to accidently pull out the watermelon! I wanna know what a watermelon seedling plant looks like so i can tell it apart from weeds! HELP!! I need PRO gardeners!! HELP ME PLEASE!
The sprout from the watermelon will first have two large rather oval leaves, they should be about the size of a dime at first. From these two oval leafs you will get a short stem and then a watermelon true leaf, which is uniform in shape,….kind of wavy. You will easily recognize the sprout. If you have Ever raised a sun flower…the first two leafs are very similar. If you are still in doubt, wait till the seedling are large enough to clearly identify. Then remove the weeds and care for you watermelon. Once your water melon plant is two weeks old start a weekly light fertilizer. I use miracle grow on all my garden. Be careful not to over water once you have melons on the vine or they will split on you, as a matter of fact letting the be on the dry side while the melon matures will produce a sweeter fruit.
Good luck and happy-watermelons….Grandma
